SCOPI

Far conoscere gli aspetti di interesse astronomico, storico ed artistico dei quadranti solari, favorendo la tutela ed il restauro del patrimonio esistente, la costruzione di nuovi quadranti solari ed il loro uso nelle attivita' scolastiche ed in quelle per la divulgazione dell'astronomia.

MODALITA' DI PARTECIPAZIONE

Il concorso e' aperto a tutti. Ogni partecipante deve inviare almeno una fotografia a colori (formato 10x15 cm., in sei copie) e una diapositiva del quadrante solare presentato (ogni concorrente puo' presentare fino a tre opere in concorso).
Si accettano anche modelli in cartoncino, fuori concorso. Quelli giudicati meritevoli verranno menzionati.
Il materiale inviato non verra' restituito. Deve essere inoltre inviata una scheda descrittiva contenente tutte le informazioni richieste; deve essere infine precisato se si intende partecipare alla sezione dilettanti o professionisti.

I partecipanti devono inviare la documentazione richiesta entro il 30 giugno degli anni dispari.

GIURIA E PREMIAZIONE

La giuria che seleziona il materiale raccolto e premia i migliori quadranti solari è formata da: Mirco Antiga (referente scientifico per le attività di gnomonica dell'Unione Astrofili Bresciani); Francesco Azzarita (fondatore della Sezione quadranti solari dell'Unione Astrofili Italiani); Piero Bianucci (giornalista); Giovanni Paltrinieri (gnomonista); Giuliano Romano (astronomo). L'ideazione e l'organizzazione del concorso sono a cura di Loris Ramponi (Unione Astrofili Bresciani).

La giuria si riunira' per redigere le classifiche dei vincitori ed assegnare i premi al primo, secondo e terzo classificato. La migliore opera della sezione professionisti non concorrera' ai premi, ma verra' menzionata con un attestato.

I premi consisteranno per ciascun vincitore nel ricevimento di una raccolta delle pubblicazioni sulla gnomonica edite dall'Unione Astrofili Bresciani e di un dono offerto dal Centro studi e ricerche Serafino Zani.

I tre vincitori riceveranno anche l'Agenda del Cielo per iniziativa dell'Editore Drioli.

Alle scuole partecipanti saranno inoltre offerte particolari condizioni di favore per frequentare le visite di istruzione del "Progetto Eureka" (laboratori interattivi a carattere scientifico, lezioni con i planetari del Centro Astronomico Eureka e visita all'Osservatorio "Serafino Zani").

La data della cerimonia di premiazione verra' comunicata a tutti i partecipanti.

MOSTRA, CATALOGO E SEGRETERIA DEL CONCORSO

Tutto il materiale selezionato verra' esposto in occasione delle premiazioni.
Le schede delle opere che hanno partecipato al concorso verranno pubblicate nel periodico "Il Sagittario", edito dal Centro studi e ricerche "Serafino Zani".

SHADOWS OF TIME
International contest for sundials makers - Since 1989
Sponsored by the Italian Amateur Astronomers' Union
and the Astronomical Italian Society

AIMS
To diffuse knowledge of the astronomical, historic and artistic features of sundials. To promote preservation and restoration of the existing sundials, as well as the making of new ones. To encourage their use for didactic purposes and for the diffusion of astronomical knowledge.

HOW TO ENTER THE CONTEST
This competition is open to every sundial maker that has made one or more sundials (the projects can be presented out of contest). Each entrant has to send at least one slide or color photo of the sundial (3 different works maximum in contest) he/she has built (10x15 format, in 6 copies) plus one negative for each photo. We accept also cardboard sundial models out of contest. The best models will be mentionned. The materials will not be sent back. Besides, a descriptive card in Italian or English, containg the required information (see form) must also be sent. Each entrant has to specify if he/she chooses either the amateur or professional section. Closing date for entries is June 30, of each odd year.

COMMITTEE AND PRIZES
Here's the list of the members of the committee who will select the material and award the best sundial: Francesco Azzarita (founder of the sundial section of Italian Amateur Astronomers' Union), Piero Bianucci (journalist), Mirco Antiga (Unione Astrofili Bresciani), Giuliano Romano (astronomer) and Giovanni Paltrinieri (sundial maker). Project and organisation by Loris Ramponi (Unione Astrofili Bresciani).

The committee will meet for the list of the winners and for the prizes which will be given to the first, second and third winner. The best work of the professionals will not compete for the prizes but will be given a special mention reference.
For each winner the prize will be a collection of the sundial publications of Brescia Amateur Astronomer Union and a gift given by Serafino Zani Study and Research Center.

EXHIBITION, CATALOGUE AND CONTEST COMMITTEE
All selected material will be showed during the awarding of prizes. The description of the works presented at the contest will be presented in "Il Sagittario", published by Serafino Zani Study and Research Center. Send all documents required to enter the contest to:
